A new housing scheme has been announced to help first-time buyers get on the property ladder with a low deposit.

Announced by Prime Minister Andy Burnham, the scheme offers eligible buyers the chance to purchase their first home with just a 2.5 per cent deposit and access to a 20 per cent equity loan.

Tom Hayes, the Labour MP for Bournemouth East, said: "Every time I talk with younger families, they say they want the same chance of home ownership as their parents had."This policy is about providing young people with a leg-up onto the property ladder with a deposit of just 2.5 per cent.
